AVP/SMUSA International Awards 2011 – 2012 for Undergraduate and Graduate, Canada
Established by and reporting to the Vice-President, Academic and Research, in the fall of 2003, the International Mobility Awards Committee oversees a fund to assist full time and part time Saint Mary’s University undergraduate and graduate students to participate in approved international student exchange programs or other approved international experiences. The funding for these awards has been contributed by the office of the Vice President Academic and Research and the Saint Mary’s University Students Association (SMUSA).

Kinds of activities supported:
- Study abroad for academic credit (semester, full year, or summer sessions);
- Group training internationally;
- Language training outside of Canada;
- Volunteer placements that are recognized as part of an academic credit programs; and
- Other opportunities regarding international experiences that will be considered if the applicant can demonstrate to the committee’s satisfaction that the experience will contribute substantially to his or her specific program of study at Saint Mary’s University.
Eligibility for Awards:
In order to be considered for an award a student must:
- Be a registered Saint Mary’s University full time or part time student in an undergraduate or graduate program;
- Have completed the equivalent of at least one full year of study at Saint Mary’s (i.e., have at least ten 3 credit hours for undergraduates or equivalent for graduate students) at the time of planned departure;
- Be in good standing (i.e., not on academic probation);
- Participate in an international program or activity approved by Saint Mary’s University, as determined by the Office of International Activities in consultation with the Academic Vice President.
Note:
- Preference will be given to those applicants who have not previously received an award.
Application Process
The student must complete and submit the attached application form for review by the International Mobility Awards Committee. There will be two competitions for the 2011 -2012 academic year, i.e. for international experiences to take place between September 1, 2011 and August 31, 2012. The deadlines for application are: March 15, 2011, and November 1, 2011 at 4pm.
Amount of Awards
The committee will assign a fixed value to the awards from $500 – $2000. The award should cover no more than 50% of the costs of the international experience.
